WHAT IS AROMATHERAPY?
"Aroma" derives from the Greek word for spice - today we use the world more more broadly to mean freagrance - and "therapy" means treatment, so aromatherapy literlly means curative treatment by the use of scent. My research into the the therapeutic properties of EO and the plants from which they derive has led me all over the world and brought me into contact with many cultures in which EO are valued. In Aromatherapy Massage, I reveal the traditional healing qualities attributed to my favorite oils and discuss the properties ascribed to them by the latest research. I have always added EO to oil blends in the belief that they enhance the effects of a massage. Odours are perceived by the part of the brain connected with emotion, so a pleasurable scent can have a positive effect on your enjoyment of life.
THE ART OF MASSAGE
Massage is probably the oldest and simplest of medical treatments. Rubbing an aching shoulder or soothing a furrowed brow is a healing instinct common to all cultures. Over two thousand years ago, the Greek physian Hippocrates said "rubbing can bind a joint that is too loose and loosen a joint that is too rigid". This is the most fascinating part of massage ; athe same strokes can produce so many different effects. Brisk movements invigorate, while similiar movements performed slowly can induce sleep. And, because massage is almost second nature, the techniques are easy to learn. The physical benefits of massage, such as improved circulation and relaxed muscles, and the psychological feeling of being comforted and cared for, produce a sence of well-being which is surely unique.
TOUCH & SCENT
Aromatherapy massage is an art that operates thrpugh the emphaty between the person giving the massage, the person receiving it and the aroma of the oils. Each blend of oils is individual, determined by the scents the receipt prefers and by their desired effect, whether it is to relieve minor ailments, to pamper with an aromatics beauty treatment, or simply to ease tension with a full body massage.
Over 700 years ago, Rumi, an Afghan poet and philosopher, related the benefits of Aromatherapy in this story : Once upon a time, there was a man who had an illness which none seemed able to cure. Aftermuch travelling, he found a very wise doctor, who gave him a stick and told him to go for a walk with it every day. A month later, the man was completely cured. He returned to the doctor, who revealed that the handle of stick was filled with aromatic plants and spices, and the heat and rubbing of the man's hand released their healing properties. I hope thet Aromatherapy will have the sam beneficial effect for you and that Aromatherapy Massage will help you to experience touch and smell in the most pleasureable way through giving and receiving massage with scented oils.
